VelMap started after the third invoice surprise from a heavyweight maps SDK. We wanted a cheaper map embed that loads in under 14 KB, respects visitors, and never sends a per-thousand bill.
VelMap is a flat-priced, lightweight iframe map embed service. We render tiles from OpenStreetMap data on our own infrastructure, package them behind a tiny iframe, and let any website paste a map in seconds.
We are not trying to replace Google Maps the application. We are replacing the part of it that sits at the bottom of contact pages, store locators, and event listings - the part that should be a commodity and isn't.
Map embeds became a tax. A small business pays for tile loads they don't see; a content site cannot predict the bill from one viral post; an indie developer cannot enable billing on a side project. We think a static map at the bottom of a page should cost roughly nothing and never punish growth.
VelMap is built by a small team of engineers, cartographers, and people who have shipped a lot of marketing pages in their lives. We are independent, profitable from a friends-and-family round, and we will tell you the truth about what VelMap can and cannot do.
We won't run ads on your maps. We won't sell visitor data. We won't introduce a per-thousand pricing tier in three years and rewrite this page. The flat-fee promise is the entire reason VelMap exists.
